For the first time in the history of the Delhi Police, 137 personnel were conferred honorary ranks on the day of their retirement during a piping ceremony held at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
The event followed Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena’s approval of the honorary rank promotion scheme for Delhi Police personnel, to allow promotions from the rank of Constable to Sub-Inspector. The scheme was formally announced during the Union Territory Level Workshop on Follow-up of DGsP/IGsP Conference 2025, recently held at the Police Headquarters.
Commissioner of Delhi Police (CP) Satish Golchha said that in view of the prospects of promotion, the Delhi Police had moved the proposal of giving an honorary rank to police personnel on the date of their retirement.
The CP thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the LG for approving the proposal. Golchha applauded the valuable contributions made by the 137 police personnel to the department and to society over the years of their service, and conveyed his best wishes for their life after retirement.
He also lauded the collective efforts made by Robin Hibu, Special CP (HRD), Suman Goyal, Joint CP (HQ), Sanjay Bhatia, Additional CP (Personnel), Rakesh Paweria, DCP (HQ), and other police officers. The event was attended by senior officers of the Delhi Police, the personnel receiving honorary ranks and their family members.
