Juveniles among 7 held for stabbing teen to death

Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and the accused had a prior enmity

A 17-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death in the Bawana area of outer north Delhi, the police said on Thursday.

Seven persons, including four juveniles, have been apprehended in connection with the murder. The arrested accused were identified as Salin (21), Sahil (20), Fahad (18) and three minors, all residents of JJ Colony.

According to the police, information about the stabbing incident was received at around 9.36 pm on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Salim, a resident of JJ Colony, was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Medical examination revealed multiple stab injuries in his chest and other parts of the body, an officer said, The complainant stated that Salim was intercepted by the accused at around 8.30 pm and allegedly attacked over a previous dispute.  While some of the assailants assaulted him with fists and kicks, others stabbed him with knives, police added.

A case has been registered at the Narela Industrial Area police station. Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and the accused shared prior enmity.

“A police team analysed CCTV footage, examined technical surveillance data and gathered local intelligence, after which seven suspects, including four juveniles, were apprehended,” the officer added.

Four other suspects, all minors aged between 16 and 17, have also been apprehended. The police said one of the juveniles was previously involved in an attempt-to-murder case.

Four knives allegedly used in the crime were recovered at the instance of the accused. The police added that one Mohammad Farukh is under scrutiny for suspected conspiracy and abetment.
