During his door-to-door campaign, Dikshit criticised both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for failing to deliver on promises made to the people of Delhi.
“We visited here yesterday and are here again today. Our aim is to meet everyone door-to-door, understand their issues and gather their feedback. People have a positive response toward the Congress. They are aware that in the last 10 years, the AAP has not delivered any significant work,” Dikshit said.
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent laying of the foundation stone for a new Delhi University college, Dikshit pointed out that Kejriwal’s government had failed to fulfil its promises in the education sector.
“In 10 years, Arvind Kejriwal’s government made no new university in Delhi. Before coming to power, they had promised to construct a new college in every constituency, but they haven’t been able to build a single college, let alone 70. Be it the AAP or the BJP, both have not done anything for Delhi in higher education,” he added.
Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav accused both the parties of taking credit for development work originally carried out by the Congress government.
Yadav particularly highlighted the construction of flats for economically weaker sections at Ashok Vihar Jailorwala Bagh, which he said was conceived and executed by the Congress government in 2008.
“Prime Minister Modi is trying to take credit for flats built for EWS-category residents, but the project was initiated by the Congress in 2008 for the resettlement of slum dwellers. Both the BJP and the AAP are now claiming credit for the work done by the Congress during its 15-year tenure,” Yadav said.
Yadav also referred to the 2022 MCD elections, where the BJP took credit for handing over keys of EWS flats in Kalkaji, even though over 3,000 flats for slum dwellers there remain unallotted.
He pointed out that the Congress government had identified 229 JJ clusters for development and started the construction of thousands of flats under various housing schemes, including the Rajiv Rattan Awas Yojana.
“The Congress government started construction of 1,675 flats in Ashok Vihar and 3,024 flats in Kalkaji. The Katputhli Colony project, started in 2014, is still incomplete after 11 years due to Kejriwal’s inefficiency and corruption. Slum dwellers in Kalkaji are still waiting for their flats, with only 1,862 out of over 3,000 completed flats allotted so far,” Yadav added.
