Ladakh students visit Delhi under ABVP’s initiative, meet Speaker
As part of the Student Experience in Regional Understanding (SERU) initiative of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a delegation of 20 students from Ladakh visited Delhi on Thursday to explore the city’s historical, educational, and administrative institutions. The students toured key locations, including the Prime Minister’s Museum, Lok Sabha, IIT Delhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), before meeting Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide Ladakh’s youth with an opportunity to understand India’s diverse cultures, traditions, and administrative framework. The programme not only familiarises students with the geographical and historical backdrop of different states but also educates them about governance, higher education institutions, and the country’s cultural heritage.
During their interaction at the Delhi Assembly, the students shared their experiences and lauded ABVP’s efforts in fostering national unity. Speaker Vijender Gupta praised the objectives of the SERU programme, stating, “This initiative allows students to closely understand India's rich cultural heritage, administrative systems, and democratic values. It is not just an educational experience but also a platform for young people to recognize their role in nation-building.” He also answered students’ queries and emphasised the importance of youth participation in democracy.
Throughout the visit, students gained insights into India’s governance and education system. At Lok Sabha, they observed parliamentary proceedings, while the Prime Minister’s Museum provided an overview of India’s political history. Visits to IIT Delhi and JNU exposed them to academic innovation and research activities.
Sharing his experience, student delegate Dorjay Namgyal said, “Visiting Delhi gave us a unique opportunity to understand India’s cultural and administrative diversity. Interacting with the Assembly Speaker and witnessing parliamentary proceedings was an unforgettable experience.” Another student, Neema Dolma, added, “This journey helped us connect with students from other states and understand different cultures. It has broadened our perspective and enriched our understanding of India.”
ABVP’s national general secretary, Dr Virendra Singh Solanki, highlighted the programme’s impact, stating, “The SERU initiative allows Ladakh’s students to witness India’s cultural diversity firsthand. It is not just an educational tour but a powerful medium for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and national unity. ABVP’s aim is to encourage students not only in academics but also in developing a comprehensive understanding of the nation and society. When young people from different regions engage and exchange experiences, it strengthens harmony and mutual cooperation.”
The SERU initiative continues to serve as a bridge connecting students from different parts of India, fostering a deeper understanding of the country’s administrative, academic, and cultural landscapes.
