A unique cooperative concept to convert waste to compost was inaugurated at government residential apartment complex in the heart of the city where 200 households of service officers will join hands in segregating wet and dry waste and process it accordingly.

The project was today installed at Service Officers Sangli Apartments on Copernicus Marg, with New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurating the facility where the wet waste will be converted into organic compost to be used as manure for kitchen gardens and farmers.

The initiative is supported by ITC under its WOW (Well Being Out of Waste) programme where all the partners — Government, NGO, Corporate and Communities — are actively involved to promote segregation of dry and wet waste.

The households in these apartments began segregation four months ago and achieved 100 per cent at sources due to intervention of WOW.

Anil Rajput, senior vice-president, Corporate Affairs, ITC Ltd., said, “We successfully implemented the project in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. We are happy to replicate this model and are confident that this will further make a meaningful contribution to India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”
