At a meeting with the NDMC Chairman, the LG assessed ongoing works and discussed measures to address operational challenges while strengthening civic infrastructure across the New Delhi area.
Highlighting the NDMC’s role as the urban local body managing the heart of the national Capital, Sandhu said the council must aim to deliver services that are efficient, citizen-focused and aligned with global standards. He emphasised that NDMC’s functioning should serve as a model for other civic bodies.
Among the key focus areas identified during the meeting was the adoption of advanced technologies for efficient waste management. The L-G also called for pedestrian-friendly solutions in high-footfall areas such as Khan Market and Connaught Place, which witness heavy daily movement of residents and visitors.
The discussion also touched upon the need to examine measures to rationalise power tariffs for the NDMC residents to ease their financial burden. In addition, Sandhu stressed the importance of involving chambers of commerce, civil society groups and voluntary organisations in strengthening the education ecosystem through a collaborative approach.
Underscoring core civic priorities, the L-G said sustained attention must be given to effective garbage management, timely road repairs, dust mitigation and prompt redress of issues raised by citizens and the media.
He further advised the NDMC to remain open to feedback and bridge the gap between on-ground realities and service delivery expectations, noting that responsiveness and accountability were essential for achieving citizen-centric governance.
