Man dies by suicide at in-laws’ home in Southeast Delhi after matrimonial dispute
Family members rule out foul play
A 32-year-old man died by suicide at his in-laws’ residence in southeast Delhi’s Badarpur area after his wife refused to reconcile with him following a matrimonial dispute, police said on Monday.
The incident came to light around 9.05 am on Sunday after the Badarpur police station received a PCR call reporting a domestic dispute at a house in Gautampuri. A police team reached the spot and found Ajab Singh, a resident of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, dead inside a room on the first floor.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Singh had come to Delhi to persuade his wife, Pushpa, to return with him. After she declined, he allegedly locked himself inside a room. When there was no response, police broke open the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan. He was declared dead at the scene.
Family members, including the deceased’s father, told police they do not suspect any foul play. Their statements have been recorded.
The body has been sent to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination. Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), relating to inquest proceedings, are underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.
