The Gurugram police on Saturday arrested a man for attacking a priest with a sharp-edged weapon in Bhangrola village. A farsa (sharp-edged weapon) used in the crime was recovered from the accused’s possession.
According to the police, the complainant said he had been serving as a priest at Shiv Shani Temple in Bhangrola village since 2006. For the past few days, a person named Shiv Kumar had been visiting the temple to offer prayers.
On Friday afternoon, while he was lying on a cot behind the temple, Shiv Kumar allegedly attacked him from behind with a sharp-edged weapon, causing injuries to his neck and shoulder, due to which he became unconscious. The complainant alleged that Shiv Kumar had attacked him with the intention of killing him. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Kherki Daula police station.
Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused on Saturday. He was identified as Shiv Kumar (33), a resident of Bela Baga village in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Bhangrola village, Gurugram.
“During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the priest was residing at the temple with his family, which was allegedly a matter of objection for the accused. The objection led the accused to commit the crime,” said a senior police official.
