Traffic on the Ghazipur-Akshardam National Highway-24 came to a halt after residents and family members of a 30-year-old man, who was shot dead in Ghazipur early on Monday morning, came on to the streets demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. The deceased has been identified as Rohit.
A police official said five persons were involved in the murder. Out of this, two had been arrested. A monetary dispute was the reason behind the murder.
The police said those arrested had been identified as Nazim (40) and Talib (24), both residents of Ghazipur Dairy farm in East Delhi. The former was involved in six criminal cases.
On Monday morning, the Ghazipur police received a call regarding a person admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital with gunshot injuries, who later succumbed to his injuries.
When the police reached the spot, they came to know that Rohit was allegedly shot by Yamin and his associates near NH-24.
DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania said: “The eyewitness stated that he, along with Rohit, was returning after taking diesel from a dumping yard on a two-wheeler. When they reached near the flower market intersection, three-four persons came in a car and shot at Rohit. He was shifted to a hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.”
On eyewitness’ account, the police registered a case. Following which, four team were formed under the supervision of Additional DCP Vineet Kumar to nab the accused. Through CCTV footage, technical and manual surveillance, two accused were nabbed, the DCP said.
“Three other accused are still absconding. Efforts are being made to trace them and they will be arrested soon. Further investigation is on in the case,” the DCP said.
He said a rumour was spread that the police had let go of the accused. Therefore, people blocked the road and halted the traffic.
Meanwhile, the AAP alleged that the new-BJP government in Delhi and the Centre were incapable of ensuring law and order in the city. AAP MLA from Kondli Kuldeep Kumar said: “The double-engine government of BJP in Delhi has completely failed. The BJP government and their CM Rekha Gupta are incapable of ensuring law and order in the city.”
