Man stabs wife, daughter over domestic tiff in Delhi

The Delhi Police have arrested a man accused of attempting to murder his wife and minor daughter by allegedly stabbing them following a domestic dispute in northeast Delhi’s Mansarovar Park.

The incident came to light on August 1 after the Mansarovar Park police station received information from Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital that a woman, identified as Poonam (38), and her 15-year-old daughter had been admitted with serious stab injuries.

During the initial investigation, the police found that the woman’s husband, Satya Prakash, had allegedly attacked both victims with a knife, before fleeing the spot.

Based on the woman’s complaint and other evidence, the police registered a case under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on August 2 and launched a hunt to trace the accused.

Investigators examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas, which showed the accused, an e-rickshaw driver, fleeing by boarding another e-rickshaw after crossing the Jagatpuri railway line towards Nand Nagri. The police also questioned local residents and e-rickshaw drivers to reconstruct his movements.

During investigation, the police learnt that the accused frequently visited the Gagan Cinema area to consume alcohol. Acting on this information, the police laid a trap near the cinema on August 4, but he managed to evade arrest.

On August 5, the police got a tip-off that the accused was present in a park near Gagan Cinema. A police team rushed to the spot and apprehended him from the parking area near the cinema.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. Satya Prakash told investigators that he had a heated argument with his wife over a domestic issue. In a fit of rage, he attacked his wife and daughter with a knife.

The police have recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime. Further investigation is underway.
