MC imposes Rs 30 lakh fine for illegal waste dumping in Gurugram
The Sanitation Security Force (SSF), constituted by Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG), has stepped up vigil against illegal dumping of garbage and construction and demolition (C&D) waste in the city.
MCG Additional Commissioner Balpreet Singh said the SSF had imposed penalties amounting to Rs 30 lakh in the past three months on 210 people, who were found dumping waste at unauthorised places.
He asked locals to contact the civic body’s helpline number, 9015339866, if they needed to remove the construction waste.
He said the MCG had fixed rates for the authorised disposal of C&D waste. The rates had been fixed at Rs 360 per tonne for segregated C&D waste and Rs 720 per tonne for unsegregated C&D waste. “This effort of the MCG will make it possible to ensure cleanliness in the city and control illegal garbage dumping,” he said.
Balpreet said the MC officials were taking strict action against those dumping debris in public places. “Dumping garbage and construction waste on plots not dedicated for it is a punishable offence, and violators are facing heavy fines along with legal action,” he added.
He said the SSF was monitoring all areas of the city. Out of the total 120 vehicles seized, the SSF had filed FIRs against 29 of them, he said. “We will definately take legal action in such cases,” he said.
