Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh on Tuesday celebrated Holi with divyang and mentally special children at Asha Kiran Home in Rohini, reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare and inclusion of vulnerable sections.
The minister interacted with the children, shared sweets and colours and enquired about their wellbeing. He said Holi symbolises inclusion, belongingness and social harmony, adding the smiles of the children were a message of social progress.
Singh noted he has regularly marked festivals such as Diwali and Raksha Bandhan, as well as his birthday, with residents of Asha Kiran and similar institutions, calling it both a personal and governmental commitment towards sensitive sections of society.
Highlighting ongoing initiatives, he said the Delhi government is working to strengthen healthcare, education, skill development, sports and cultural opportunities for divyang and mentally special children. He directed officials to ensure quality facilities, cleanliness, safety and humane care in all such institutions.
The minister also informed that land allotted at Usmanpur in North-East Delhi is being inspected for a proposed school-cum-home for special children.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Singh said a monthly attendant allowance of Rs 6,000 has been arranged for divyang persons and incentives announced for Paralympic and Asian Games medal winners. He added that facilities such as Atal Drishti Hostel, Atal Asha Grih and Savitribai Phule Senior Citizen Home aim to provide dignified and secure living conditions.
