Thirty students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at a government school in Narela here. The students were soon rushed to a hospital. People involved in the incident will be arrested, said DCP Rajneesh Gupta.
“The FIR is registered under IPC 336 and 337. We have received information that about 30 students were taken ill after consuming mid-day meal. They have been taken to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital," DCP said.
As per the hospital authorities, the children had complained of abdominal pain.
"All students are stable and likely to be discharged soon," a senior doctor told.
This is the second such incident within a week. Two girls had fallen ill after having mid-day meal on Saturday at a government school at East Delhi's Khichdipur in which a dead lizard was allegedly found.
In the wake of two such incidents, the Delhi government’s Education Department has called a meeting of all mid-day meal suppliers in the capital tomorrow. Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam also visited the hospital where the affected girls were admitted.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia told reporters here that directions have been issued to officials for regular inspections of mid-day meal kitchens and suppliers have been warned of strict action for negligence.
“The Education Director has called a meeting of all mid-day meal suppliers tomorrow…. If the suppliers are found to be failing in meeting the required standards, their contract will be cancelled,” he noted.
