National conclave of trade leaders begins in Delhi on May 18

A two-day national conclave of trade leaders organised by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will begin at Bharat Mandapam on Monday to deliberate on the seven strategic economic measures recently announced by PM Narendra Modi against the backdrop of the evolving geopolitical situation and the ongoing West Asia crisis.

Around 150 trade leaders representing different states, sectors and business associations from across the country are expected to participate in the conclave, which will play host to conversations focusing on strengthening of domestic supply chains, reducing logistic costs, boosting indigenous manufacturing and promoting exports.

According to organisers, the conclave aims to prepare a roadmap for implementing the PM’s strategic measures within the business community while strengthening the role of traders, MSMEs, manufacturers and startups in building a resilient and self-reliant economy.

Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said the deliberations would also focus on increasing the use of railway and multimodal freight systems, encouraging digital trade practices and accelerating the vision of an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. A key highlight of the conclave will be the launch of the official website of the Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The initiative is a joint venture between India Trade Promotion Organisation and CAIT aimed at promoting swadeshi products and supporting the “Vocal for Local – Local to Global” campaign.

Organisers said the Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav had been envisioned as a national platform to showcase India’s manufacturing capabilities, traditional products, innovation and entrepreneurial strength while creating opportunities for MSMEs, artisans, women entrepreneurs and startups by connecting them with domestic and international buyers.

The conclave will also discuss ways to position India as a trusted global sourcing and supply-chain hub amid growing global trade uncertainties and disruptions caused by international conflicts. At the conclave, trade leaders are expected to adopt a joint resolution supporting the PM's vision for economic resilience, stronger domestic commerce and self-reliance.
