The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday announced it would organise Virat Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav (BVM)-2026, billed as India’s biggest-ever national trade event, from May 1 to 4 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, in the national capital.

The announcement was made during the curtain raiser of the event, where CAIT leaders said the four-day mega expo would be organised in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local and Local to Global, with the aim of strengthening domestic trade and positioning Indian businesses on the global stage.

Sharing details, CAIT national secretary general and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said the rapidly changing global trade environment, marked by tariffs and geopolitical conflicts, presented a crucial opportunity for India to consolidate its economic strengths. “In this backdrop, the CAIT is launching a nationwide Indian trade movement, with Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav as its flagship initiative,” he added.

Describing the event as a celebration of the Indian common market, Khandelwal said BVM-2026 would showcase the unity and diversity of Indian trade, manufacturing, services and entrepreneurship under the spirit of ‘One Nation–One Market’. He added that the expo would also highlight India’s ancient trading traditions and their relevance in the modern economy.

According to the CAIT, the event is expected to feature over 2,000 exhibition stalls, attract more than two lakh traders and draw close to 10 lakh visitors over four days. The event is also expected to facilitate large-scale business deals, partnerships and investment opportunities across sectors.

Special emphasis will be placed on MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, artisans, startups, youth-led enterprises, self-help groups and cooperative institutions, while promoting export expansion and import substitution. The exhibition will cover over 24 sectors and be organised across eight dedicated zones, including B2B, investment and finance, tourism and handicrafts, education and skill development, regional food and women and youth entrepreneurship.

Key features of the event will include buyer-seller meets, startup pitching platforms, investor interactions, product launches, export facilitation desks, on-the-spot credit support and policy dialogues on trade reforms and ease of doing business.

Khandelwal said the CAIT is also reaching out to foreign trade delegations, global buyers, NRIs, investors and international trade bodies to position India as a reliable and competitive global trade partner. “The Indian common market is among the largest in the world, as reflected in our robust digital payment ecosystem. It is our collective responsibility to strengthen it further,” he said.
