Seeking to allay fears of a fuel shortage, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply across the capital remains stable and adequate, urging residents not to panic or be misled by rumours.
The CM said domestic LPG deliveries were outpacing bookings, reflecting a strong and responsive supply chain. On April 12, while 1,11,766 bookings were recorded, as many as 1,30,094 cylinders were delivered by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), indicating pending backlogs were being cleared. The average delivery time has also improved to 3.87 days from 4.24 days earlier, ensuring quicker doorstep service for consumers.
On the commercial front, Gupta said Delhi has a daily allocation of 6,480 LPG cylinders (19 kg equivalent), while the average daily offtake over the past week stood at 4,268 cylinders, including 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders. “This clearly shows that supply is exceeding demand,” she said, appealing to commercial users not to engage in unnecessary stockpiling.
Reiterating that the distribution network is functioning smoothly across the city, the chief minister said a dedicated control room set up by the Food and Civil Supplies Department is operational to assist consumers facing issues in accessing LPG cylinders. She urged commercial consumers to contact the numbers 011-23379836 or 8383824659 on any day of the week between 9 am to 7 pm if they face any issues in obtaining cylinders.
The government has also encouraged a gradual shift to alternative fuel sources such as Piped Natural Gas (PNG), particularly for bulk users like hospitals and educational institutions, citing improved safety, efficiency and reliability. Consumers have also been advised to consider electric or induction cooking as a medium- to long-term solution for uninterrupted energy access.
Gupta said the government is monitoring the situation closely on a daily basis and remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply across Delhi.
