The Delhi Traffic Police issued over 11,800 challans during a three-hour city-wide special enforcement drive targeting improper parking and wrong-side driving, officials said on Sunday.
The intensive drive, conducted on April 25 across all districts and traffic ranges of the capital, focused on two of the most common causes of congestion and road accidents in the capital. Authorities said the operation was carried out simultaneously across key arterial roads, market areas and accident-prone stretches to ensure maximum coverage.
According to officials, more than 8,500 vehicles were penalised for improper or obstructive parking. Action included towing away vehicles parked in no-parking zones, near intersections, on footpaths and in areas that disrupt traffic flow, particularly in busy commercial zones and service lanes.
In addition, over 3,500 violations were recorded for wrong-side driving. Dedicated teams were deployed at high-risk locations to check vehicles moving against the designated flow of traffic, including two-wheelers, autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and commercial vehicles.
The traffic police urged citizens to follow road rules, park only in designated areas and avoid taking shortcuts by driving against traffic. “Road discipline is a shared responsibility. Such violations not only attract penalties but also put lives at risk,” an official said.
