Over 1,500 Delhi Police personnel, CAPF units deployed for Kanwar Yatra
GT Road stretch to remain closed from August 9 to 12
A total of 1,533 Delhi Police and 250 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel have been deployed across northeast Delhi as part of security measures in view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.
The police have deployed 27 PCR vans, five Prakhar vehicles and 107 motorcycles for patrolling along the yatra routes.
The police said a total of 78 Kanwar camps have been set up in the district. Of this, 31 are fully functional while the remaining are nearing completion.
As per the police, all camp organisers have been directed to install CCTV cameras and erect ‘machans’ (watch towers) for adequate surveillance.
The police have set up four sub-control rooms to provide round-the-clock assistance at Y-Point, Dharampura, Maujpur Chowk, Khajuri Khas Chowk, and near Gokalpuri T-Point.
In order to ensure smooth traffic flow and road safety during the Kanwar Yatra, the movement of heavy commercial vehicles on Wazirabad Road, Vikas Marg, GT Road and connected roads has been restricted or diverted from July 29 to August 12 to facilitate the movement of Kanwariyas and prevent traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, GT Road (from Apsara Border to Yamuna Bridge) will remain closed to commuters from August 9 from 7 am to August 12 till 8 pm in order to facilitate the movement of Kanwariyas.
