Parvesh pays tribute to father Sahib Singh on birth anniv
Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma on Saturday paid tribute to his father, former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, on his 82nd birth anniversary and pledged to complete his unfinished developmental work in the national capital.
“Development work in Delhi started 30 years ago during the BJP government. Since then, only politics has taken place in the city. We are committed to making Viksit Delhi and will complete his unfinished work,” Verma said.
The event saw the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood and other senior leaders, who offered floral tributes to Sahib Singh Verma. Earlier in the day, Parvesh Verma also performed a havan in his father’s memory.
Born on March 15, 1943, in a farmer’s family in Mundka, Sahib Singh Verma began his political journey as an RSS worker and was elected to the Delhi Municipal Corporation on a Janata Party ticket in 1977. He served as the Delhi Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998.
MCD recalls ex-CM’s contribution
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Saturday paid tribute to former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on his birth anniversary, acknowledging his contributions to the city’s development and governance.
An event was organised by the MCD’s Community Service Department at Kakrola Park in Najafgarh, where several dignitaries, including local councillor Sudesh Kumar and senior MCD officials, gathered to pay homage to the former Delhi CM.
Verma’s tenure as the Chief Minister was marked by key initiatives aimed at improving Delhi’s infrastructure and governance. His contributions to rural development, education reforms and strengthening the BJP’s foothold in Delhi and national politics continue to be remembered.
MCD officials highlighted his role in shaping the city’s policies and praised his dedication to public service.
CM Rekha calls Parvesh her ‘brother’
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday described her relationship with BJP colleague and Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma as that of a brother and sister, emphasizing that holding the CM’s post was secondary to their shared commitment to serving the people.
“In Indian society, the elder sister is often entrusted with responsibility first. The sister is now the Chief Minister, while the brother is serving as a minister,” Gupta said at an event marking the birth anniversary of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma in Mundka.
“Between us, it doesn’t matter who holds the CM’s chair. We will work together like a brother and sister to carry forward the unfinished work of Sahib Singh Verma,” she said, calling the former CM a “guiding force” in her life.
