Reports of the Privileges Committee, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and Public Accounts Committee will be tabled in the forthcoming Budget session, which will commence from March 23.

As per Assembly officials, a preliminary report of the Privileges Committee on the issue of alleged gallows and FIR in connection with the alleged comments of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly Atishi is likely to be place during the session.

Moreover, discussions on the pending CAG and Public Accounts Committee reports are also likely to take place after the presentation of the Budget.

In a press conference, Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta said based on the discussions, the sitting of the House can also be extended, if need arises.

It is noteworthy to mention that AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and former deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla appeared before the Committee of Privileges on March 6.

Notably the ‘Phansi Ghar’ was inaugurated on August 9, 2022, within the Assembly premises and drew criticism after Speaker Vijender Gupta presented proof to counter the stated fact.

Speaker Gupta argued that 1912 maps from the National Archives show no gallows. He claims the space was a service area for food delivery (“tiffin room”) and argues that the alleged “noose mechanism” was a wooden lift for transporting food.

In connection with the FIR registered in Jalandhar over the alleged circulation of a video of Atishi, three top officials of Punjab - Additional Chief Secretary Punjab (Home) Alok Shekhar, DGP Gaurav Yadav and Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur - had appeared before the Committee of Privileges of Delhi Assembly and presented their submissions.

It is likely that the preliminary report in this matter will also be put in front of the House during the session. The Budget session of the Delhi Assembly will commence from March 23.
