Delhi PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Verma has assured citizens that the national capital will see a visible transformation within a year, with a special focus on solving the long-standing water crisis.

Speaking during his visit to various government residential complexes in Gole Market, Rakabganj, and Sarojini Nagar on Saturday, Verma said outdated water pipelines had been a major cause of polluted water supply in several parts of Delhi.

“There are a lot of places in Delhi where people face issues due to water pollution. This is because water pipelines are 40-80 years old,” Verma said, blaming “decades of neglect by previous governments”, who, he said, had failed to upgrade the Capital’s basic water supply infrastructure.

He said the government had already sanctioned a new master plan for the city’s water and sewerage networks. “New pipelines will be laid. The budget in this regard has been passed and further sanctioned, tenders have been cleared, and work at some places has already started,” he said.

Verma said the public would see concrete results within a year, despite the government being only five months old. “I want to make you all believe that, in one year, Delhi’s face will change,” he said, assuring residents that the overhaul would be completed with transparency and on time.

During his visit, residents shared with him their concerns about contaminated water supply and poor maintenance. Verma instructed PWD officials to stick to strict timelines and ensure that the quality of work was

not compromised.
