The BJP Government in Delhi seems to be in action mode to fulfil its poll promises in a time-bound manner. It has subsequently issued directions to senior PWD officials to adopt at least one stretch of the road and keep a watch over its condition.

According to an official document, accessed by The Tribune, the government has observed that several stretches of PWD roads in Delhi “lack the desirable appearance” due to issues such as maintenance of carriageway, footpath, kerbs and central verge.

“To overcome such issues, it has been decided to engage all senior officers of the PWD up to the rank of superintendent engineers to adopt at least one stretch of the PWD road of their choice for the purpose,” the order read.

In Delhi, the PWD maintains about 1,280 km of roads. This includes 40 km of Ring Road, 65 km of Outer Ring Road and rest main arterial roads.

The department has already prepared an excel sheet having names of 25 senior officers who have been asked to furnish their choice of three stretches within next seven days.

“Subsequently, an official will be allotted one stretch to keep a watch over it and give valuable feedback to executing officials concerned of that stretch and over the e-monitoring app and follow up compliance,” the official order read.

It is pertinent to mention here that soon after the formation of the government in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had convened a meeting with PWD officials and directed them to fix road issues at the earliest.

In its manifesto, the BJP had promised to improve Delhi’s connectivity with Gurugram and Noida in collaboration with the Central Government by launching extensive development projects.
