900 units collected during drive | CM calls event a fitting tribute
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday participated in a mega blood donation camp organised at Thyagaraj Stadium to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, describing the initiative as a fitting tribute to the great freedom fighter’s ideals of patriotism and sacrifice.
Interacting with blood donors, the Chief Minister lauded their spirit of service, and said donating blood in Netaji’s memory was one of the noblest ways to serve humanity. Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior Health Department officials, representatives of voluntary organisations and a large number of citizens were among the attendees of the event.
The camp witnessed more than 1,000 persons registering, and around 900 units of blood collected. Gupta thanked the donors and presented them with donor kits and certificates as a mark of appreciation.
Despite heavy rainfall, people turned up in large numbers, reflecting their respect for national heroes and commitment to public service, the Chief Minister said.
She added that the resolve of “every drop of blood for the nation” would help save lives while honouring Netaji’s legacy. Helmets were distributed under a road safety campaign. Emphasising the importance of road safety, the Chief Minister said saving lives extended beyond hospitals and included responsible conduct by citizens.
The Health Minister said the enthusiastic participation, especially by the youth, underscored a strong sense of social responsibility, adding that the government would continue organising such camps to ensure timely availability of blood.
