The 52-year-old man, who was shot dead in South Delhi’s Aya Nagar on Sunday morning, has been identified as Ratan Ram. He left home around 6:25 am to buy milk when four to five men arrived in a car, fired 15 to 20 rounds and fled.

The police found him with multiple gunshot wounds. He was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Family members said the attack was a revenge for the May 2025 murder of businessman Arun Lohia near the Chhatarpur Metro station. Ratan Ram’s son, Deepak, and two associates, Yogesh and Ajay, were arrested for that killing and are lodged in Tihar Jail.

The dispute started in 2023 over a plot of land used for Ratan Ram’s dairy business. Deepak and Arun Lohia, once friends, fought over the property. In 2024, Arun Lohia and his men assaulted Deepak, leading to an attempt-to-murder case. The police said Deepak then killed Arun Lohia in retaliation.

Ratan Ram’s nephew, Dharmendra Singh, named Arun Lohia’s father, Rambir Lohia, and brothers-in-law as suspects. He said the attackers knew Ratan Ram’s routine and followed him to a shop.
