Road closures near New Delhi Railway Station to last till March 12
Police advise commuters to plan ahead, use alternate routes
Commuters in central Delhi have been advised to plan their journeys carefully as major construction and excavation work near New Delhi Railway Station is set to disrupt traffic on key routes.
As part of the ongoing redevelopment of the railway station, the one-side carriageway on Asaf Ali Road from Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate via Delight Cinema is set to remain closed till March 12. Traffic on this stretch would be partially restricted during the period.
Motorists travelling to Delhi Gate Chowk from Hamdard Chowk or RA Kamla Market have been advised to take Minto Road, then DDU Marg to BSZ Marg, before proceeding to Delhi Gate Chowk. Those coming from Guru Nanak Chowk should use Mirdard Chowk, Mirdard Marg and BZA Marg to reach Delhi Gate.
The affected stretches include Asaf Ali Road from Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate Chowk and Chaman Lal Marg. Authorities have urged railway passengers and daily commuters to allow extra travel time, avoid parking on diversion routes and cooperate with traffic police to ensure smooth movement.
In a separate advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police said digging work would be carried out on Chelmsford Road, opposite New Delhi Railway Station in Paharganj, till March 5.
The work, being undertaken by the Delhi Jal Board, involves restoration of a settled sewer line. Traffic movement on Chelmsford Road and adjoining connecting roads is likely to be partially restricted during this period.
Stretches affected by the excavation include Chelmsford Road opposite the station, the Munjia Chowk area and connecting roads towards Paharganj.
Authorities said the measures are necessary to ensure timely completion of the redevelopment and sewer restoration works while minimising inconvenience to commuters and railway passengers.
