Sanjay Jamuar appointed first CEO of Delhi Metro International Limited to expand global footprint
DMIL has been set up with government support to provide consultancy, advisory services and undertake operation and maintenance (O&M) assignments for metro and urban transit systems across India and abroad
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has appointed Sanjay Jamuar as the first Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a newly formed entity aimed at taking up metro rail projects and operations beyond Delhi and abroad.
DMIL has been set up with government support to provide consultancy, advisory services and undertake operation and maintenance (O&M) assignments for metro and urban transit systems across India and abroad. The initiative is expected to position the DMRC as a global player in urban transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility solutions.
An ex-Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, Jamuar brings extensive experience spanning Indian Railways, DMRC and international assignments across the UK, US, Europe and the Middle East. He holds a postgraduate diploma in strategic leadership from Warwick Business School and has conducted research in transport economics at Leeds University.
Notably, Jamuar was the DMRC’s first O&M employee when he joined in 1998, making his return a “homecoming” of sorts. His appointment is expected to strengthen DMIL’s vision of exporting Delhi Metro’s technical expertise, project execution capabilities and operational efficiency to global markets.
The DMRC already has a strong track record in metro consultancy and execution. It is currently associated with the Dhaka Metro project in Bangladesh and handles key O&M contracts for metro systems in cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Patna. Additionally, it has contributed to the construction and planning of metro networks in cities including Jaipur and Mumbai.
With the launch of DMIL, the DMRC aims to scale up its international engagements, offer end-to-end metro solutions, and support cities in developing efficient, modern, and sustainable public transport systems.
