Nearly three weeks after a student of South Asian University (SAU) lodged a sexual harassment complaint against a hostel warden, the university administration is yet to take any concrete step or issue an official statement on the matter. The student has since left the campus and moved to Mumbai with her family, citing emotional distress.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of October 12, raising serious concerns about the campus safety and handling of such sensitive cases. According to university sources, the survivor, a postgraduate student, had approached the university authorities soon after the incident and later lodged a police complaint. While the university had announced the formation of a committee to look into the allegations, no information about its findings or proceedings has been shared with the university community.

Students at the SAU say the silence from the administration has left many feeling unsafe and unheard. “It’s deeply disappointing that the university has not taken any visible step so far. Only a temporary suspension of the accused is not sufficient,” said a student.

Another student said, “The administration’s silence sends a wrong message. It shows that even in higher education institutions, survivors have to struggle to get their voices heard.”

When contacted, SAU Public Relations Officer (PRO) OP Yadav said the university was awaiting the outcome of police investigation. “The case is under police jurisdiction. We cannot say anything at this stage. The university will respond only after the final verdict,” he told The Tribune.

Meanwhile, students continue to demand a transparent investigation and stronger mechanisms to ensure safety and accountability on the campus.
