Security drills held as Delhi Assembly monsoon session begins today

With the monsoon session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly set to begin on Friday, the Assembly Secretariat on Thursday reviewed elaborate security and logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the proceedings.

A meeting chaired by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta was held at the Assembly Secretariat, where senior officials from the Delhi Police and multiple security agencies assessed preparedness for the session.

Ahead of the session, the police conducted a comprehensive mock drill on the Assembly premises to evaluate operational readiness, emergency response capabilities and preparedness for any security contingency.

Senior police officials informed the Speaker that all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the session.

According to officials, around 130 Delhi Police personnel, along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams, will be deployed throughout the session to provide multi-layered security.

As part of the enhanced security plan, view cutters will be installed around the Assembly complex to prevent unauthorised visual access, while an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)-rank officer will be permanently stationed at the Assembly.

A dedicated Delhi Police office will also be established within the Assembly complex to strengthen coordination between security agencies, improve supervision and enable a swift response to any security-related incident.

Security infrastructure at the Assembly has also been upgraded. Hydraulic road blockers are being installed at all entry gates, access control systems are being strengthened and an enhanced on-ground security mechanism is being put in place. A quick response team (QRT) of the CRPF has already been deployed.

Under the revised access protocol, entry to the Assembly premises will be allowed only through Gate No. 1, while all other gates will remain restricted to regulate movement and reinforce perimeter security.

The review meeting also covered threat assessment, deployment strategies, surveillance systems, communication networks, visitor management, frisking procedures, traffic regulation and emergency preparedness, including medical, fire and evacuation arrangements.

“The House is fully prepared for the monsoon session,” Speaker Gupta said.
