International cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed the brand ambassador of the upcoming Delhi Khel Mahakumbh, a major sports initiative of the Delhi Government scheduled to begin on February 13. The announcement was made by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood after a meeting with Dhawan held in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Sood said that after witnessing the Delhi Government’s commitment towards strengthening sports and nurturing young talent, Dhawan voluntarily decided to take on the responsibility of serving as the brand ambassador for sports in Delhi. He said the decision reflected Dhawan’s deep connection with his roots and his commitment to giving back to the city that shaped his journey.
Sood stated, “The Delhi Government is confident that under Dhawan’s guidance and inspiration, young players of Delhi will receive new energy, self confidence, and recognition.” He added that the government was proud to welcome an extremely successful sportsperson and inspirational personality like Shikhar Dhawan on behalf of Delhi’s youth and players.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her gratitude to the cricketer during the meeting and appreciated his contribution towards encouraging players from Delhi. She noted that his association with the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh will significantly motivate children and youth to actively pursue sports.
On the occasion, Shikhar Dhawan said, “I am extremely happy that I have been made the Brand Ambassador for the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh. Delhi has given me so much. I am always ready to serve this soil. I am very happy that the Delhi Government has taken such a wonderful initiative and created such a strong platform for the youth so that our young players can perform well and excel in sports. Whatever I can contribute to sports, I will give my full effort and extend complete support to the players.”
The Delhi Government believes that Dhawan’s presence and mentorship will inspire a new generation of athletes and further strengthen Delhi’s sports ecosystem.
