Sonepat police ban heavy vehicles from entering Delhi ahead of Independence Day
Traffic restrictions to be enforced in two phases from August 12 to 15; vehicles to be diverted through alternative routes
The Sonepat police on Sunday issued a traffic advisory for heavy vehicles heading towards Delhi in view of the main Independence Day programme. The restrictions will come into effect from August 12.
According to the advisory, issued in coordination with the Delhi Police, entry of heavy vehicles into Delhi will be restricted from 8 pm on August 12 to 1 pm on August 13. A second restriction will remain in force from 8 pm on August 14 to 1 pm on August 15. During these periods, heavy vehicles will be diverted through alternative routes.
ADGP and Commissioner of Police Mamta Singh directed supervisory officers and SHOs to ensure strict compliance with the restrictions and prevent heavy vehicles from entering Delhi.
As per the advisory, vehicles coming from the Panipat side will be diverted from the Gannaur flyover on NH-44 towards Khubru Jhal, within the jurisdiction of Gannaur police station.
Heavy vehicles coming from the Panipat side via GT Road and the Gohana bypass will be diverted towards NH-352 in the Murthal area.
Vehicles coming from Uttar Pradesh towards Delhi will be diverted towards Sonepat from Bahalgarh. Those coming from Uttar Pradesh on NH-334B will also be diverted towards Bahalgarh.
Nakas will be laid at the entry points of the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) and Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressways. The Kundli police will divert vehicles towards Narela from Kundli.
A special naka will also be set up near the Delhi Chowk bypass in Kharkhoda to divert vehicles towards the Kharkhoda-Sampla road.
Appropriate police force will be deployed from the Haldana border to the Singhu border along NH-44 to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the highway, Mamta Singh said.
