Teacher held after video of beating students goes viral

The Faridabad police has arrested a mathematics teacher of a government senior secondary school for allegedly beating two Class IX students, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The accused has been identified as Narender Rathi (46), a mathematics teacher at Government Senior Secondary School, Sarai. He was later released on bail after joining the investigation, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday when the teacher allegedly punished two students for leaving the school premises a day earlier without informing the staff. Rathi is accused of mercilessly beating the students on their soles with a cane inside the classroom. The act was allegedly recorded secretly by another student and the video surfaced online on Wednesday morning.

After the video went viral, Saran police registered an FIR and identified the school and teacher through the students’ uniforms. Statements of the victims, teachers and parents were recorded, while the Child Welfare Committee also intervened in the matter.
