Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Thursday accused the BJP-led Delhi Government of pushing state school education into a crisis due to an acute shortage of permanent teachers, claiming that the future of underprivileged poor students was being jeopardised.

Addressing the issue, Yadav said Delhi’s government schools required around 80,000 permanent teachers, but only about 44,000 posts were filled. He alleged that nearly 10,000 sanctioned posts remain vacant, forcing schools to depend heavily on guest and contractual teachers. “How can teachers give their best when they are uncertain about their salary and future?” he asked.

Yadav claimed that more than 18 lakh students were enrolled in government schools, while only 70,000 teachers are available, a large number of them on temporary contracts. He also pointed to delays in recruitment, stating that although the Delhi Service Selection Board initiated hiring for 6,787 posts, the process has stalled due to administrative bottlenecks.
