New Delhi, July 17
The government today lodged an FIR against the Delhi Golf Club over alleged felling of trees in violation of Section 8 and Section 23 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994.
In the matter, the government through the Range Forest Officer, South Forest Division, filed a police complaint at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station against the management of the prestigious club for alleged "illegal" tree-felling inside the club.
The complaint was filed on the basis of the inspection report of the Forest Department which was earlier ordered by the Minister of Forest and Environment to submit an inspection report on the matter following directions of the Chief Minister.
The inspection team confirmed that pits were being dug and logs of several sizes were being dumped in it. It further said, logs already dug out manually from the pits at the site are numbered and lying at the site.
“.... more pits are required to be dug out to get the exact/approximate number of logs or gravity of the offence which is beyond the capacity of the resource available with the Forest Department and the matter needs urgent registration of FIR and further investigation by the police,” read the complaint filed at the police station. — TNS
