According to the police, the Foreigner Cell of the North-West district apprehended the accused near the Jahangir Puri Metro station falling under the jurisdiction of the Mahendra Park police station on March 9 during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.

Officials said the duo had been deported from Uttarakhand earlier for illegally staying in India. Despite this, they managed to re-enter the country and resume unlawful activities.

Their arrest followed an operation after the deportation of three Bangladeshi women on February 25 who were allegedly involved in a human trafficking and solicitation racket. During interrogation, these women told investigators that a Bangladeshi national named Vikas had facilitated their illegal entry into India and arranged clients for them in Delhi in exchange for money.

Based on the disclosures, the Foreigner Cell initiated surveillance and monitored the suspects’ social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Intelligence inputs suggested that Vikas and a woman claiming to be his wife were operating near the Jahangir Puri Metro station as part of the solicitation network.

Acting on the information, the police conducted a pre-dawn operation. After the suspects allegedly agreed to engage in illegal activities, the team moved in and detained them.

During questioning, the duo initially claimed to be Indian citizens. However, their inconsistent responses raised suspicion, prompting further verification. A detailed investigation, including document checks and digital analysis, confirmed that they were Bangladeshi nationals residing in India illegally.

The police also recovered two smartphones installed with the banned IMO application and six Bangladeshi national identity documents stored in their phone gallery.

The accused were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and deportation proceedings had been initiated, the police said.
