Two sharpshooters of Himanshu Bhau’s gang arrested after encounter

The Gurugram police nabbed two sharpshooters of the notorious Himanshu Bhau gang after a brief encounter on the Delhi–Jaipur Highway in the early hours of Saturday. Both suspects sustained leg injuries in the exchange of fire and were admitted to hospital.

According to police, the Crime Branch Sector 40 team received information that two shooters linked to the Himanshu Bhau gang were moving around the Manesar area on a number plate-less Splendor motorcycle and were planning a major crime. Acting on the tip-off, police set up barricades and launched a search operation.

At around 2.30 am, a joint team from Crime Branch Sectors 39 and 40 spotted the suspects near Saharwan village and gave chase. When police tried to intercept them, the suspects diverted onto a service road. Near the Manesar Valley area, they realised they were surrounded and attempted to flee. Their motorcycle skidded, after which they allegedly opened fire on the police while trying to escape.

Some bullets hit a police vehicle, though the personnel inside escaped unhurt. Despite warnings to surrender, the suspects continued firing. In self-defence, police returned fire after issuing warning shots.

During the encounter, both sides exchanged around 13 to 14 rounds. The two suspects were shot in the legs and fell on the road, following which they were overpowered and taken to hospital.

Police identified the accused as Karan alias Romie (24) and Pravesh (21), both residents of Kanjhawala village in Delhi. A black Splendor motorcycle, a foreign-made pistol, a revolver and cartridges were recovered from the spot.

“Both accused are involved in ten criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder and robbery. They were also involved in the recent shooting incident in Mundka, Delhi. They are undergoing treatment and will be formally arrested and questioned after being discharged from hospital,” said Naveen Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime).
