Galgotias University is no stranger to online backlash. In 2024, it became meme material after students protested against the Congress party over its election manifesto. Now, the university is facing fresh controversy over its claims related to an AI robot.

During the 2024 protest, a news channel recorded footage in which students struggled to read their placards, and one student mispronounced “urban naxalism” as “urban Maxwell,” which quickly went viral on social media platforms such as X.

The recent controversy arose after the university showcased a quadruped robot that became a major crowd-puller at a summit venue.

The narrative turned contentious when tech observers alleged that the robot was a commercially available unit developed by Chinese robotics firm Unitree, rather than an indigenous innovation.

Online posts and tech enthusiasts accused the university of presenting the machine as its own technological achievement, sparking a debate over ownership and attribution claims.
