Woman, aide booked in kidney donation scam

The Gurugram police have registered an FIR against an unidentified woman and her associates for cyber fraud after they allegedly lured people with a promise of Rs 3 crore for kidney donation, falsely using the name of Medanta–The Medicity Hospital.

According to the police, main accused Priya Santosh posed as a doctor at Medanta and contacted victims through social media, fake websites and WhatsApp groups. On a complaint by Medanta’s medical superintendent, Dr Sanjay Durani, a case was registered.

The complaint stated that the accused created a fake website using Medanta’s name and logo, claiming the hospital required kidney donors and would pay Rs 3 crore per donation. The woman also displayed a fake staff ID on the website.

The fraud came to light when a woman, Pratiksha Pujari, was duped of Rs 8,000 as “registration fees” and later asked to deposit another Rs 10,000.
