Work on Inderlok-Indraprastha Metro corridor commences in Delhi
To have 10 underground stations, will be completely driverless
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the construction work of the 12.377-km Inderlok-Indraprastha Metro corridor, a fully underground extension of the Magenta Line, here on Thursday.
The new corridor will have 10 underground stations at Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan Temple, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya-IG Stadium and Indraprastha.
Once completed, the Magenta Line will become the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro network, extending nearly 89 km from Botanical Garden to Inderlok. It will also be completely driverless.
Addressing the event, Gupta described the Metro as “the foundation of a developed Delhi” and said expanding the public transport network would help reduce traffic congestion, lower pollution and provide faster, safer and more sustainable mobility to commuters.
The corridor will provide interchange facilities with seven Metro lines - Red and Green at Inderlok, Magenta at Nabi Karim, Yellow and Airport Express (Orange) at New Delhi, Violet at Delhi Gate and Blue at Indraprastha, making it one of the most interconnected sections of the Delhi Metro network.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the project will improve connectivity to key destinations, including Sarai Rohilla railway station, New Delhi railway station, Delhi Sachivalaya, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jhandewalan Temple, India Gate, Kartavya Path and the Central Vista area, while also benefiting commuters travelling to Karol Bagh, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and nearby educational institutions and commercial centres.
The DMRC said the Inderlok-Indraprastha section forms a major part of the ongoing Phase IV expansion of the Delhi Metro.
