Emphasising the critical role of youth participation in shaping the nation’s future, Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Sunday said that a “Viksit Bharat” is defined not just by economic growth, but by the strength of its institutions and the active engagement of young leaders.
Addressing the My Bharat Budget Fest 2026 at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Gupta described the Union Budget as more than a financial document, calling it a “roadmap of national intent” that reflects governance priorities and the direction of sustainable development.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, saw participation from students and young leaders, including 325 women who took part in a Women Mock Parliament initiative.
Highlighting the significance of the programme, Gupta said the Women Mock Parliament is not merely symbolic but a meaningful platform that introduces young women to the discipline and responsibility of legislative functioning. He noted that such forums encourage structured engagement with governance issues and foster clarity of thought, confidence in expression and respect for diverse perspectives.
“The presence of 325 young women reflects a significant shift in how public life is being approached, with increasing engagement in institutional processes and national discourse,” he observed.
Linking the discussions to the Union Budget 2026, the Speaker reiterated that the Budget goes beyond allocations, outlining the broader vision and priorities guiding India’s development. He added that the concept of a developed India is closely tied to effective policymaking, strong institutions and inclusive growth that reaches citizens meaningfully.
Looking ahead, Gupta pointed to upcoming legislative measures aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding the digital economy, improving public service delivery and refining regulatory frameworks to meet evolving societal needs.
Underscoring the importance of informed civic participation, he said that when young citizens engage with policy and legislative processes, they strengthen democratic institutions and ensure governance remains responsive.
Gupta concluded by expressing confidence that platforms such as the My Bharat Budget Fest play a vital role in nurturing such engagement, adding that a truly developed India will be shaped by informed, active and responsible participation from its youth.
