Bollywood and television actor-anchor Anup Soni attended a one-day literary festival “Yayavar”, which was organised in collaboration with the Rotary Club, Jalandhar, at Lovely Professional University here on Tuesday. Actor Anup Soni of ‘Crime Patrol’ TV serial fame was the special guest whereas other members of the team, including its producer and writer Anirban Bhattacharya, held a panel discussion.

Soni, the host of 1,800 plus crime episodes, said he tackled those crimes in the serial, which were committed by common man/woman out of anger, greed, jealousy, hate, rivalry, etc. However, crime was not a solution to such factors. He wanted all to be alert about surroundings and happenings there.

Talking about depression becoming common among youngsters and suicides and crimes, actor Soni suggested that the factor was the biggest killer and persons suffering from depression should never be left alone. They should also talk about their sufferings with their near and dear ones. About acting, the National School of Drama graduate (Anup) said it was a daily learning process and a serious profession that required a lot of passion.

In addition to inviting speakers of different fields, special two sessions were also held on Amrita Pritam- ‘Meri-Teri Amrita’ and ‘Kashmir Ki Kahani’. In fact, the fest brought India’s established and emerging 30+ journalists, playwrights, film-makers, poets, painters, thinkers and performing artists on a single platform. LPU director general HR Singla felicitated participants.

Commencing the fest, Nupur Sandhu, founder president of the organisation, said the English meaning of the word “Yayavar” was “the wanderer”, and such persons moved in great hopes instead of just desperation. They dived deep into the ocean of mind and got pearls in the form of mesmerizing words of various literary and art genres, be these poetic, sketches, paintings, creative writings, novels, essays, messages or more. The aim of all was to awaken and help society. She inspired students to lead a unique living by carrying out their creativity.

Additional Dean Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal was the first speaker who spoke on ‘Volunteerism’. He suggested to students to be society-oriented through their respective services. He said a person’s value depended on what he contributed rather than what he obtained. The Rotary Club president informed about various services and projects of this international NGO. LPU alumnus Shwetima Jamwal, who is at present a popular RJ, hosted the fest and chose the topic ‘A reality check of literature dying or flourishing’.

Food artist from Scotland, Kunwar Gagan, an owner of ‘39 Bakers’, talked on the topic ‘Hungry for More’. He wanted to help hungry people through leftovers in a dignified manner. He wanted to install large fridges outside the top hotels and restaurants to store leftover food for needy persons. Creative Director Jasleen Kaur spoke on the ‘The art of community building through events’ and motivated participating students to perform prominent roles.
