SAD leader of state legislature Parminder Singh Dhindsa was conspicuous by his absence at the crucial working committee meeting here today. The meeting was held in view of the 99th foundation day of the SAD scheduled for Saturday.

Dhindsa Senior at Taksali meet

  • The SAD (Taksali) leaders on Friday held a meeting, which was chaired by party president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, to finalise the foundation day programme, scheduled for Saturday. It was attended by Rajya Sabha member and rebel Akali leader Sukhdev Dhindsa. Those likely to attend the event are DSGMC ex-chief Manjit Singh GK, ex-minister Balwant Ramoowalia, SAD (Delhi) chief Paramjit Sarna and Bains brothers.

Chaired by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, scores of SAD leaders attended the meeting that was mainly focused on adopting the ways to strengthen the party’s organisational structure.

The leaders also discussed the financial details of the last five years, amendments to be introduced in party’s constitution and the process to elect new party president for the next five years.

As the tradition goes, there are 468 delegates appointed in the state who would choose the party president during a special session. It has been scheduled after the foundation day programme on Saturday.

Parminder Dhindsa’s move to skip this vital meeting was noticeable, mainly amid rebellious attitude of his father and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who has already announced that he would prefer attending the “parallel” foundation day programme being organised by the Taksali leaders.

Speculations are rife that Dhindsa Junior has deliberately avoided being part of the SAD programme despite the fact that the entire party leadership, including Sukhbir Badal, his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia, former SAD ministers, MLAs marked their presence in the “akhand path” initiated to mark the foundation day. The leaders have also been performing sewa at joda ghar and langar hall of the Golden Temple till the bhog.

Now, it is to be seen if he too joins his father at SAD (Taksali) programme.

SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema confirmed that Parminder Dhindsa could not make it toprogramme, but said he was expected to join tomorrow’s event.

On Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s announcement to attend SAD (Taksali) programme, Cheema said he had been creating fissures in the Dhindsa family to gain political mileage.

Meanwhile, SAD (Taksali) secretary general Sewa Singh Sekhwan claimed that Sukhdev Dhindsa had confirmed his participation in their programme scheduled at CKD-run school auditorium on the Majitha road. “I believe that Parminder Dhindsa would also attend our programme,” he said.
