Jalandhar, March 5

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) on Thursday condemned the American Sikh Congressional Caucus (ASCC) for ‘failing to protect the lives and property of the Sikh Community residing in the United States’.

Satnam Singh Chahal, executive director, NAPA, in a press release here on Thursday condemned the functioning of the ASCC in the wake of a Sikh boy’s killing at a grocery store in California. The ASCC was formed to save the lives and property of Sikh community in the United States, he said.

Chahal’s statement came after the killing of Sikh boy Maninder Singh Sahi, who was shot dead at a grocery store in Los Angeles in California.

He further said earlier in Texas, a Sikh deputy sheriff Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal was shot dead during a traffic stop near Houston. He said Dhaliwal was considered a trailblazer as the first Sikh deputy when he joined the county force 10 years ago. After his hiring, the sheriff's office adjusted its regulations to allow him to wear a beard and a turban as an observant Sikh.
