Bathinda, February 14

Local SAD leaders are making preparations for Sukhbir Badal’s rally here on February 29. Party leaders held meeting with workers and said efforts were on to make the February 29 rally a success. A meeting of SAD workers was held under the leadership of SAD district president Jagdeep Singh Nakai and former MLA Sarup Chand Singla at a private place in the city. The party is hopeful that around 25,000 people will attend the rally.

SAD leader Jagdeep Singh Nakai said the party was holding rallies in various districts to mobilise workers and make them aware of the failure of the Capt Amarinder Singh government.

Singla said: “We will expose how the Congress government backtracked from all its major poll promises, including employment to all, curbing the drug menace giving smartphones and providing houses to poor. The government deliberately ignored the Atta-Dal and Shagun schemes of the previous SAD-BJP government. Names of many beneficiaries of these schemes were erased.”

Singla claimed that 5,000 workers from the city would also participate in the rally. He said party workers would mobilize people by holding meetings in all 50 wards of the city.

SAD leaders Mayor Balwant Rai Nath, former mayor Baljit Singh Birbehman, Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, Iqbal Dhillon, Daljit Singh Brar, OP Sharma and others were present in the meeting.

The rally is also being considered crucial for the SAD, as in the 2017 Assembly elections it had failed to win any seat, while AAP and Congress won three seats each in the district.
