Double Victory Brigade, under the aegis of Vajra Corps, organised an Army band display at Army Public School, Beas, on Tuesday. Besides, Army personnel, locals, officials, civilians and students witnessed the display at Milkha Singh stadium.

“The purpose behind organising the army band display is to spread awareness among local populace regarding work ethos, culture and tradition practised by the Indian Army that symbolise high moral values, discipline and character of a soldier. Such events also help in instilling a spirit of patriotism among citizens. The event will help motivate and inspire the youngsters to adopt soldiering as profession,” a senior Army official said.

The story of the Indian Regimental Band that we know today is related to the 300-year-old history of the British Army Band. The Indian Regimental Band specialises in playing tunes using pipes and drums. The band display included popular patriotic tunes such as “Kadam kadam badaye ja” and “Sare jahan se achha” to instill a feeling of belongingness with the Indian Army.

The Indianisation of the band began when the British rule over the country ended. The first Indian Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, confronted the challenge and laid down the foundation of the Military School of Music in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, in 1950.

The Indian Army holds a distinct identity in playing military music. The scintillating performance by the Army band mesmerised the complete audience and they cheered to boost the morale of the troops taking part in the band display.
