Drones to keep eye on curfew violators

UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore today directed the police to take the help of drones to find defaulters and also to impound the vehicles violating the curfew orders.

The Administrator, along with UT Adviser Manoj Parida and other senior officials, held his daily review meeting in the Covid war room set up at the UT Secretariat.

Badnore expressed satisfaction over the effective implementation of the curfew in the UT. Pictures taken during the day at various places in Chandigarh using drones were shown to him. He directed the DGP to enhance surveillance and take the help of drones to find defaulters and impound the vehicles violating the curfew orders.

The Administrator was informed that 56 medical teams were going all over the city for contact-tracing of Covid patients. He urged people to inform the Administration about those who have returned from abroad and have not reported their foreign visits to the authorities.

It was decided that post offices will remain open during the curfew with skeletal staff.

Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar said yesterday, 32,000 food packets were distributed among the needy and homeless in the city. Badnore thanked NGOs and charitable organisations for assisting the Administration in providing cooked food.

MC Commissioner KK Yadav said door-to-door distribution of vegetables, fruits and milk was going on smoothly. He said Zomato had agreed to provide its services to people for placing orders online for only essentials, including ration and vegetables. He said Markfed, Big Bazaar and Punjab Agro were ready with supplies for online orders from consumers.

Parida said the Centre had given clear directions that no migrant should be allowed to cross the UT border. Directions had been given for providing accommodation, food and medical aid to stranded migrant labourers.

The Administrator was informed that one-day salary had been voluntarily contributed by UT employees towards the PM relief fund and the amount — Rs 5 crore — had been sent.

Badnore informed that all banks and ATMs had been kept open for two days March 30 and March 31. It was also stated that while direct sale in grocery shops will be allowed from 11 am to 3 pm, delivery on the doorstep to customers can be made from 9 am to 9 pm. Shop owners will be allowed to open their shops from 9 am to 11 am for cleaning and adding stock.
