Ludhiana, March 27

With zeal to serve society in these testing times, more than 3,000 policemen of all ranks are working day and night in shifts to ensure that residents abide by the curfew orders imposed to check the spread Covid-19. Many policemen, along with volunteers of various NGOs, have been serving food to the needy and poor.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Security and Headquarters, Deepak Pareek told The Tribune that yesterday, more than 5,000 needy people were served food and today, the target was set at 10,000 persons.

“We are not only serving cooked food to the needy but are also serving groceries to the poor. The way volunteers and good-hearted people are joining in hands with the police and the district administration, we hope to serve food to the needy three times a day,” said the ADCP.

Pareek said along with Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal, most policemen had been devoting more than 18 hours in service. “We wake up at 6 am and sleep at 2 am. We will continue to serve the people in these tough times and we also urge people to come forward and contribute food and other things for the needy,” said Pareek.

Cops voluntarily cancel their leaves

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Security and Headquarters, Deepak Pareek said he was surprised to know that not even a single policeman had applied for leave for the past one week. In fact, many police personnel have joined duty after cancelling their leaves.

NGO, social bodies lauded

NGO Insaniyat Ek Dharm being led by social activist Rohit Sahni, SAD Youth president Gurdeep Singh Gosha, Dhan Guru Ramdas Ji Langar Sewa, Hoshiarpur, etc, have been daily serving food to the poor and needy people.

2,500 volunteers come forward for help

Additional CP Gurdev Singh has shared on his Facebook page that in response to our request for requirement of volunteers to be put on duties as curfew management officers and door-to-door delivery executives, the police have received response from more than 2,500 volunteers. They have requested all volunteers to reach their respective police stations.

List of grocery, medical stores for home delivery

Paying heed to the complaints of residents that many grocery and medical stores are not attending to their phone calls and some also refused to deliver goods at home, a list of 226 medical stores and 346 grocery stores, the owners of which are willing to deliver goods on doorstep, has been put up on the Facebook page ‘Ludhiana Police’ and Twitter handle ‘Commissioner of Police’ of the Ludhiana police.
