THE Delhi High Court’s recent ruling that a woman’s attire cannot be used to question her character is a welcome reminder that the courtroom must examine evidence, not enforce social morality. The judgment, arising from a sexual harassment case involving a minor, rightly rejected questions about the girl’s “western” clothes and the suggestion that such attire could “corrupt” boys. It placed responsibility where it belongs: on boys and men to regulate their conduct and respect boundaries.
