India’s abstention : Gig workers deserve a fair deal

INDIA’s decision to abstain from voting on the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Convention No. 193 on “Decent Work in the Platform Economy” is a letdown for lakhs of workers who keep the country’s digital economy running. While over 400 delegates supported the treaty, including representatives from China, Brazil, Germany, France, Japan and South Africa, the Indian government chose not to endorse the world’s first binding international framework for gig workers’ rights.
