Students visit printing press

Students of BA-II (honours) under the guidance of Dr Vibha Sharma, head of the department of public administration at the MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, visited a printing press in Panchkula. The students were familiarised with the pre-printing graphics technology. Tilak Raj Satija, managing director of the press, in an interaction with the students, informed about various processes involved in pre-printing graphics and familiarided them with various job opportunities in the field. The students made the most of the visit by putting forth their queries regarding the need of skill for workers, industrial pollution, infrastructure requirement, government policies and the labour-related problems.

Yoga workshop

A one-day master trainers’ yoga workshop was organised by the All-India Council for Technical Education in collaboration with NITTTR, Chandigarh. Dr Rajindera Parsad, Director, Administration, AICTE, Delhi, elaborated upon the importance of yoga and forthcoming Yoga Workshops to be organised in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad by AICTE. More than 300 students from the AICTE-approved institutions participated in the workshop.

World Health Day observed

The faculty of ayurveda, reserch and nursing at Desh Bhagat University observed World Health Day. Under the programme, students took part in various activities. The students held a rally and went visited a large number of houses to make the people aware of several diseases such as diabetes, cancer and epilepsy. Colorful banners and placards with awareness messages like “eat healthy, beat diabetes”, “follow medical advice and eat healthy” were carried by the students. The Director (Faculty of Nursing), Dr Ramandeep Dhillon said this year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) was focusing on spreading awareness about diabetes.

Conference at PU

The international conference on drugs and development concluded at the University Institute of Legal Studies(UILS), Panjab University, on Saturday. As many as 350 research scholars and students from various colleges presented their research on various topics. Dr RP Singh, Deputy Director General, Drug Control Bureau, Tripti Tandon, Deputy Director, and Prof Manoj Kumar from the University Business School, Panjab University, were chief guests during the panel discussion. A formal discussion regarding the the drug menace in India was followed by a question hour.

Health camp

Panjab University on Saturday organised the first health camp at Government Primary School, Kasauli, Kharar. The health camp was organise by the university in association with the Health Department. The focus of the camp was on making family health cards under the National Health Mission. As many as 20 volunteers from the ENACTUS SSBUICET and the Centre for Public Health, PU, assisted in filling the health cards. They also highlighted the importance of sanitation and spread awareness about water-borne diseases. Water filters designed by a ENACTUS team under the Amal-Vari project were put on display.

MoU signed

The Anovus Institute of Clinical Resarch, a regional centre of Punjab Technical University, signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two leading institutes of New Zealand and Canada. Anovus director Dharinder Tayal said students could now apply for the postgraduate diploma in clinical research, drug safety and pharmacovigilance at the Academy of Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) Inc, Ontario, Canada. The collaboration with the Waiariki Institute of Technology, New Zealand, offers students a masters’ degree in applied professional studies.

Seminar

The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), Chandigarh, organised a seminar on cost accounting and auditing standards. Preet Mohinder Singh, chairman of the Chandigarh chapter of the institute stressed on the need for standardising the practices being followed to ascertain the cost of production. BB Goyal, advisor, Management Accounting Research Foundation, highlighted the need for developing cost accounting standards on the basis of generally accepted cost accounting principles.

Conference on Digital India

The Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, organised an international conference, Srijan-16. The theme for the conference was “Digital India Stimulating India’s Growth under Uncertainties and Challenging Environmental Issues”. The conference was inaugurated by Dr Buta Singh, Dean, Academics, PTU. The keynote speaker was Dr SP Bansal, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi Dr Mikael Belay, Professor, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia; Degu Setaegn, Professor, Dilla University, Ethiopia; and GS Batra, Head, SOM, Punjabi University, were the guests of honour.
