The Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) authorities have recommended the termination of two sanitary supervisors to the state government following an inquiry into the ongoing ‘period proof’ controversy at the university.

“Both supervisors were appointed under the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), and therefore, only the government has the authority to terminate their services. Accordingly, the university has written to the government in this regard. An Assistant Registrar has already been placed under suspension pending inquiry,” said an MDU official on condition of anonymity.

He said the recommendation was made based on the findings of an inquiry committee headed by Prof Sapna Garg.

The case came to light after three women sanitation workers lodged a complaint, alleging that the two supervisors forced them to clean a complex, despite knowing that they were unwell, and later asked them to prove that they were menstruating. They alleged that the supervisors claimed to be acting on the instructions of an Assistant Registrar.

The incident took place on October 26, just hours before Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh was scheduled to visit the campus.
